Ohio regulators approved a settlement creating a distinct rate class for data centers drawing more than 25 megawatts, requiring operators to pay for a minimum share of contracted capacity regardless of usage.

Utility filings show data center requests now exceed 4.4 gigawatts statewide, more than the combined peak demand of the state's three largest cities.
