Barge operators moved 812,000 tons of grain downriver last week, the highest weekly total in five years, after rainfall in the upper basin restored draft limits on the lower Mississippi.

Shippers had been loading barges at reduced capacity since late spring, adding an estimated 11 cents per bushel to delivered costs for corn and soybeans.
